International Conference on Religion and Acceptance
Closed Conference - Only for queer Muslims
October 28- October 31, 2021
Registration required
ICRA (International Conference on Religion and Acceptance) facilitates a platform for scholars, activists and professionals across disciplines and social/geographical contexts who are for an open debate on religion/faith and sexuality, sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
This conference is a follow up to Maruf’s conferences in 2012 and 2017. Since then the challenging discussion regarding the relationship between religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics is (even more) at the forefront of the international human rights debate. We want to connect, reflect and act.
Aims of ICRA
- Identify challenges facing LGBTQI+ persons of faith, faith leaders and faith communities and seek ways forward to raise awareness;
- Strengthen international focus and collaboration on improving the position of LGBTI persons within faith communities;
- Foster networking, debate and discussions across national borders and across academic and activist disciplines;
- Develop networks in support of advocacy groups and faith communities with a view to future joint action.
